12/09/2011 Learning History and Economics on the Waterfront In late October two classes of sixth grade students from the St. George School participated in hands-on lessons in local history and economics on the Port Clyde waterfront at Herring Gut, Port Clyde Fresh Catch and BioProcess Algae. They came with many questions about aquaculture, commercial fishing, and sustainability, eager to learn how each related to the history and economy of our area. Read more... |

12/08/2011 Herring Gut Students Receive Conservation Award Herring Gut Learning Center was recognized in November with the "Excellence in Conservation Education" award by the Knox-Lincoln Soil and Water Conservation District for the outstanding peer-to-peer teaching by the RSU#13 Alternative Education students at the Conservation Fair. 10/06/2011 Fun in the Sun at Marine Science Camp The weather cooperated this summer and sunshine was plentiful for Herring Gut Learning Center's 2011 marine science camps. Herring Gut intern Katie Gloede and Island Institute Fellow Alex Brasili led 67 campers, many of whom signed up for several camp days, through tide pools, streams, salt marshes, and beaches.
